The new medical building in Pécs won an architectural prize of excellence, we can root for international success in Singapore

27 November 2023

The new, ultra-modern theoretical building of the University of Pécs Medical School won the educational category at the 25th FIABCI Hungarian Prix d’Excellence, where a Hungarian and international jury awarded the best Hungarian institutional developments in 11 categories.

As reported by Építészfórum.hu, FIABCI Hungary organized the Hungarian Prix d’Excellence in 1997 for the first time with the aim of acknowledging the outstanding achievements of Hungarian real estate developers and promoting the developments to the Hungarian professional and wider public.

The winners of the competition were then delegated to the World Prix d`Excellence international property development competition, where they won 33 gold and 44 silver medals over the past two and a half decades. This makes Hungary the most successful European country and third in the world behind Malaysia and Singapore.

This year's winners were announced on 22 November at a gala event in the Museum of Ethnography. We can root for the best entries in the Singapore finals in 2024.

As the winner of the education category, the new building of the UP Medical School has also been selected for the Southeast Asian finals next year. The article recalls that the 12,000-square-meter education and research building completed in 2021 with a budget of HUF 14 billion was designed by TSPC Technical Supervision and Planning Consulting Hungary Kft., who applied for the competition, and the contractor was ZÁÉV Zrt.

As we wrote earlier about the project, the new building of the Medical School in Pécs adapts to the expectations of 21st-century students beyond personal attendance, such as, for example, education supported by info-communication tools, a "SKILL" environment based on modern technologies and preparing students for practical training, problem-oriented training that introduces research challenges, or quality community spaces beyond the educational environment.

The new building of the UPMS won a prize of excellence last year, too

The state-of-the-art building was awarded the Construction Industry Award in the Public Building/Education category in 2022, announced by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Constructors’ Masterworks (ÉMA).

Founded by the National Federation of Hungarian Building Contractors (ÉVOSZ) and the Construction Science Association, the award is the highest recognition of the achievements of the Hungarian construction industry. The award plaque was unveiled in the building on 17 March.
