Seven Hungarian universities got into the world’s bests and the UP MS is at the top even among them

8 December 2017

Based on the 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the world’s two best universities can be found in England, which means that for the first time after 14 years there is no American institution in the top 2. The world’s best university is the University of Oxford, the second is the University of Cambridge.

On the 3-7th places there are American universities (California, Stanford, Massachusetts, Harvard, and Princeton), the University of Chicago is on the 9th place.

Two more European universities got into the Top 10: the Imperial College London and the ETH Zurich.

Seven Hungarian universities could fit into the world’s top 1000 institutes for higher education, though the interval is quite wide:

  • Semmelweis University (401-500.)
  • ELTE (601-800.)
  • University of Pécs (601-800.)
  • University of Szeged (601-800.)
  • Budapest University of Technology and Economics (801-1000.)
  • Corvinus University of Budapest (801-1000.)
  • University of Debrecen (801-1000.)

The creators of the list examined the universities’ excellence based on 11 training fields as well. In the medicine and health science field, from the home universities the University of Pécs Medical School is in the 301-400th place along with the Semmelweis University, the University of Debrecen and the University of Szeged are in the 401-500th place. On the rankings of the life sciences training field the Eötvös Loránd University finished in the 301-400th place.

During the examination of the training fields, similar to the all-university ranking, the world ranking’s creators measure the institutes based on the five fields’ indexes, which are the teaching environment, research, citation, industry revenues, and international orientation. The THE ranked the world’s best universities in altogether 11 training fields, and besides the previous top 100 lists, this time they compiled top 200 and top 500 rankings as well.
